Hark! Hark! The dogs do bark...

The beggars are coming to town, Some in rags and some in jags, And one in a velvet gown.

Make a Wild Wish!

This post is dedicated to two very special people on my real “Journey” who inspire me artistically and physically:  Ramona Davis a/k/a/ PoeticJava and Blake Sterkel a/k/a BodybyBlake. Thank you for being a part of my life!  I appreciate your time, talents, and energy.

Make a wild wish by Lori Minick, Mixed Media Collage 2008

I made this Re*Birthday Collage to kick off my Artists Healing Journey – I’m taking the eCourse by Lani Gerity (click here to read more about this course available in the Shoppes of Artella).  My character’s name is Lori Rose (not pictured).  These two figures in the collage are the Time Finders.  Lori Rose made a Wild Wish when she blew out the candles on her Re*Birthday Cake and the Big Lori and Little Lori will help Lori Rose to transcend time and space.  Literally Big Lori’s function is to take Ben Franklin’s statement and turn it on it’s head so that “Lost time IS found again” and Little Lori’s is to make “time stand still”.  The problem is that Lori Rose doesn’t remember a thing after making her wish and blowing out the candles.  You see, everything faded to black and she was transported to another place… much like that which happens to artists when they are lost in the act of creating.  When Lori Rose checked in with her lower five senses again, she discovered that she was in a strange sort of forest.  This is where her “Journey” will begin.  In other words, my Artists Healing Journal Page One will start at this point.  I know Lori Rose is going to be OK, because she’s got friends to help her on her way.  Thanks Mona  – your beautiful poem has inspired the setting for my Journal and I also thank you for allowing me to post it here again in my blog.

Every journey has a beginning.
Every forest begins somewhere-
seeds, then a seedling, a sapling,
oaks, maples, & evergreens touching the sky.
You are on a path. You have held
fast to guiding hands. Then it happens
in the forest- the compass gives
you another way-
one that leads you to brambles. You are lost.
You venture on, hoping for salvation.
You don't know if it will ever come.
You just know you're missing something on this path;
a hand, soothing words, love
to bring you in the right direction.
Listen, grasp, hold tightly, submit.
Soon, perhaps,
the guiding light you've searched for
will be there, back from its own journey,
holding you and reminding you
of where you belong.

Excerpt from my Artists Healing Journal, Week One:
And Lori Rose said aloud to no one in particular, “'Perhaps'. That's a great word...  like ‘potential’ and ‘possibly’ and ‘please’, as in ‘please come back tomorrow’.  It's a word held high and a little out of my reach, but just within my earshot.  Hmmm... still I suppose I’ve been made aware of it and that it happened for a reason.  There is always hope and I am a true believer.  I choose to keep the faith.  I guess that means I’ll continue by taking another step forward.  And for that, I thank you.”

Lori this post made me smile. I'm very honored to have both inspired you and be named as a special person in your real life journey. May we take many, many journeys together on our paths and become the very best of friends. Love ya!

Hi Lori!

Your "Make A Wish" collage is beautiful.  It's colorful, thought provoking, yet whimisical.  Your story and the poem that you chose to accompany your collage paint a very exciting and inspirational picture.  I feel like you have invited me to join you on your journey.  Thanks!

Hugs,   Julie  :)

I just love this collage, Lori.  My favorite part is the Big Lori puppet.  I love the arms, legs, jewelry, and "tools" she has in her hands.  And the hair!! (I do see that eentsy-teensy birthday hat on the forehead, hee hee).

This is one of those inspired "process" pieces where I know our comments pale compared to the things you were beings swept up in while doing it --- this bespeaks pure joy, fun, and lots of hope and faith!!  But mostly pure joy...

My eyes travelled around the collage many times and always it stopped on the image of yourself, smiling, knowing, with a lock ready for the right key to open it.  Storytelling at its' best.  You are able to reveal yourself so well, Lori!

Lovely stuff, Lori -- inspires me to encourage my main character to play on her journey, as she's contentedly neutral, awake and aware, smiling and reserved thus far. Mona's poem is such a perfect fit, too!
